Herbal Allies, Plant Medicines & Magic

Teas, Tonics and Salves. Herbal & Smoke Medicines. What do these words mean when gathered together as a whole? How does the use of natural remedies in daily life create a cornucopia of possibility?

When we take the time to connect to the pure essence of a plant, what we can learn is limitless. Each plant contains unique energetic frequencies and properties that can be applied for both healing and magical purposes. These unique energies, when used in partnership with our own understandings, frequencies and bodies can provide supportive partnerships of vast notions. When we spend time in communion with the nature spirit’s around us in the trees, plants and animals we find pure community. We are an integral part of the Earth’s Ecosystems and Frequencies. Created to help protect her, the plants & animals - something we can do best by having an intimate relationship with Her.

The Ancient Ways held plant life in great reverence. Ancestors from vastly different parts of the world found ways to connect to Earth’s Bounty by way of Herbal Medicines & Remedies. In remote locations, with no direct ways of communication, our Ancestors could be found using the same plants for specific medicines, rituals & magics. It’s as if the spirits of each plant type spoke to them and said, “Here, I am a gift to you. Connect to my essence. Breathe with me, feel into the core of my vibrations. Open your sight & see the ways that I desire to work with you”.

The truth is, Humans have a longstanding relationship with Herbal Allies. We have used plants to craft remedies for pain, childbirth and postpartum. To relieve anxiety or depression. For pleasure, relaxation and even spiritual evolution. By working with Plant Allies and their Spirits, or Essences, we open portals of direct connection with Mother Earth. Nurturing this connection by working with plant medicines can be quite simple.

I encourage you to spend 30 minutes a day outside and see how it changes your emotional moods over the course of 1 week, 1 month, or even an entire year. Don’t embark on this journey with an explicit purpose; simply be guided by what brings you joy. Walking a new path because you have a feeling there is something there for you,  just beyond in the clearing, tucked away are: verdant grasses, wildflowers and glorious pines. Ready to tell you their secrets, provide company & gift you healings. There is a great presence in Nature. We often go deep into The Woods to find the company of Mother Earth. She is our steward as much as we are hers. Taking the time to connect to our innermost aspects of self by understanding, honoring our Ancestral Rites and Innate Knowledge of the Earth’s mystical creations is quite possibly one of the most important daily rituals we could partake in.

I have a ritual of breaking up my days at home with my young child by getting outside. Enjoying a morning walk with coffee, holding my child as we speak with our plants. Touching base with each herb I grow. Feeling into our flower’s essences as we embrace their soft, newly unfurled petals. Enjoying the gentle breeze as it greets us, listening to the chittering of squirrels and the songs of birds. Being surprised and delighted by the new blooms in our yard. Connecting to the roots of the Great Northern Oak in the Southern corner of my property. In these ways, we are experiencing the magic that each new day brings.

The daily rituals of my life as it is now are a few of the ways in which I choose to connect with Mother Earth, Nature and Plant Allies. I have also been actively honing my craft and knowledge of Herbalism by getting to intimately know the ways of each plant I work with. Opening up pathways of Ancestral Communication & Knowledge being passed down to me via automatic writing, psychic vision, etc. Reclaiming the Past Lives in which I was a Master Alchemist, Wise Woman & Herbalist - when people traveled far and wide to see me for the magic of my remedies & energy work. I share these bits of information with you in the hopes that it encourages you to believe in fairies, excitedly greet the day outside & let out a squeal of pure, ecstatic joy when you find edible mushrooms growing along your favorite hiking trails. Earth is full of various medicines and herbal allies are Her gift to us.
